Dr. Ruth Kimaiga
Head of Planning and Strategy
Dr. Ruth Kimaiga holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Tourism Management and a Master of Science Degree in International Tourism Management both from Kenyatta University. She also holds a Bachelors’ Degree (Hons.) in Tourism Management from Moi University. Dr. Ruth has extensive knowledge and experience in Public Policy and Strategic Management in the tourism sector having worked with the Ministry of Tourism and wildlife, various Public Universities and State Corporations for over seventeen (17 years). Dr. Ruth’s areas of interest and research focus on tourism and socio-economic wellbeing of rural communities in Kenya, regulatory approaches in tourism development, inclusive growth, the circular economy, climate change and sustainability. Currently, Dr. Ruth is the Head of Planning and Strategy at the Tourism Regulatory Authority (TRA) and a full member of the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM).
ATTI PYE
Atti Pye is a Kenyan-born career conservationist and environmentalist hailing from right here in Diani. His sustainability consultancy business, Wakijani Consultants, works with several clients around Kenya, with a primary focus on Kwale. Through years of working in Tourism and Conservation, Atti learned to appreciate the complex relationship between people and nature, becoming more aware of humankind's impact on the world around us due to our businesses and investments. In 2017, after leaving the Maasai Mara, Atti moved back to his original home in Diani to set up a sustainability consultancy business helping hotels and lodges become more environmentally friendly. He manages hotel waste utilization plans, data collection, and report generation, four organic farms for his customers, organizes community and school training, beach cleans, local marine conservation efforts, and has guided four Diani hotels towards official eco certifications this year. He hopes that through more dialogue and action, Diani can become a sustainable tourism destination benefiting all, The people through employment, secure food systems and health, the environment through understanding and protection, and businesses through reduced costs and increased bookings.

A few years ago during her travels, she was introduced to the negative impact travel can have from the environmental harm to exploitation of locals and culture. She had to do something to spread awareness that travellers can live their best lives while creating a positive impact within the country they’re travelling, hence Travel4Purpose was born.

JACQUELINE KALI Is the CEO & National Secretary of the Kenya Association of Women in Tourism (KAWT), where she champions governance, implementation, and innovation in the industry. With nearly 30 years of experience in hospitality, aviation, and business development, she previously held leadership roles at British Airways Kenya and was internationally placed in Amsterdam. Passionate about women's empowerment, Jacqueline leads KAWT's Programs Committee, ensuring impactful initiatives for female professionals. She is also an Associate Member of Equality in Tourism, a member of KEPSA Women Entrepreneurs Associations (WEA), and a dedicated mentor and advocate. A strong believer in creativity and innovation, Jacqueline has secured two patent certifications for Al app solutions and continues to explore Al's role in business growth. Her certifications include governance, security, Al, and faith-based corporate excellence. With a strategic mindset and a passion for inclusion, Jacqueline is committed to driving change and uplifting women in tourism. Her mantra: "A healthy attitude is contagious- be a carrier!"

Ben fell in love with Africa in 2001, when he moved to Ghana to work at the Ghanaian Ministry of Justice. Since then, Ben has accumulated eighteen years of experience investing in, founding, growing and managing companies and non-profits across Africa. Ben founded and led Journalists for Human Rights (now Canada’s largest media development NGO) and Newsana Incorporated (a news aggregation platform); more recently spent nearly four years as Senior Partner at AHL Venture Partners, one of Africa’s largest early stage investors. In this role Ben ran AHL’s Nairobi office and oversaw AHL’s East and Southern African portfolio; notably, Ben led an investment and subsequent exit in Twiga Foods that won the 2019 ‘Exit of the Year’ award from the East Africa Private Equity and Venture Capital Association. Ben is also the Recipient of Canada’s Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) one of Canada’s highest civilian honours, winner of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 Award and the Queen’s University Alumni Humanitarian Award. Ben has a MSc from the London School of Economics.
